Our volunteers are critical.

Detroit Dog Rescue relies on over 400 volunteer service hours per week. The dogs rescued by DDR require extra love and rehabilitation; our volunteers work tirelessly to give them what they need.

Together, the efforts of our shelter team, outreach crew, foster families and medical professionals, are driving DDR’s no-kill mission.

How can kids help?

Detroit Dog Rescue greatly appreciates the effort that each one of our volunteers and donors invest into our organization to help the homeless dogs of Detroit. Unfortunately, due to insurance restrictions, we are unable to allow persons under the age of 18 years old to interact directly with our dogs. However, there are still lots of ways supporters of all ages can get involved with DDR! Here are just a few suggestions:

  • Take a look at our donation wish list and hold a donation drive at your school, work, camp, etc.
  • Coin drive

    We are unable to take physical cans at this time.

  • Make fleece tie blankets for the dogs at our shelter

  • Make bandanas for dogs to wear at adoption events
  • Make snuffle mats for our dogs to enjoy their meals off of

  • Host a talent show or similar event and donate the proceeds to DDR
